Postpartum Tips

I asked on my instagram for the most simple, not the typical, postpartum tips. Everyone knows the big ones like; stock up on witch hazel pads, go to a chiropractor and keep taking your prenatals. But I wanted to know what can help the new mothers get through the nap traps, sundown scaries and sleepless nights.

Here is what they shared;

  • Even if you plan to exclusively breastfeed, have a couple bottles of formula on hand, just in case.

  • If you can, buy nursing friendly, cozy pajamas (These are great!)  and lounge sets and on that note buy new, fresh headscarves if you cover your hair.

  • Keep water/snacks stocked in every room that you might nurse/ contact nap in.

  • Have something to keep you entertained and make night feedings less dreary, like a book to read, new show to watch or podcast episodes to listen to.

  • Accept dinners/meal trains if they are offered. If it's difficult for you to be on the receiving end, remember the person offering is happy and excited to do it. Let them have the opportunity. Plus accepting help builds the feeling of community. You'll feel less alone!

  • On that note, if your community has a Shifra and Puah, reach out, they are an incredible organization! Don't underestimate a warm and nourishing breakfast after a sleepless night.

  • Buy some disposable dishes for the first few weeks. Plates, cutlery, cups and bowls.

  • Walmart plus offers a one month free trial. That first month sign up and get groceries delivered to your door.

  • Have a little ritual that makes you happy at sundown like a sweet treat or a bath if the baby is sleeping.

  • Shower everyday, it helps you reset and feel more refreshed.

  • Don't worry about getting in shape! It took you nine months to grow a baby, your body needs to heal. There will be time for all that later.

  • Sleep when the baby sleeps.. or you can drink your coffee, spend time with your partner, call a friend. Whatever makes you happy.
